Update on my Hopper 3. To begin with, the phone call I received to upgrade to the Hopper 3 was a ***.

The caller, claiming to be from DISH, had all my personal information including my pin number. I agreed to the upgrade then the scammer called DISH and made arrangements to have the new Hopper installed. After the installation I was to pay the $300, with $200 of that to be refunded to my DISH account $20 a month...they got me. I'm out $300.

Explained all this to DISH (they were hacked) and at least got the Hopper 2 back and it works great.

DISH did not charge me to put the older version of the Hopper back in place. Live and learn.

I upgraded my hopper to the hopper 3 a week ago and wish I hadn’t done so. Although the TV picture seems to be slightly better the overall functionality is not as robust.

The improvement of the picture is probably just self talk trying to convince myself that the $299 paid for the installation was money well spent. But the most important functionality to me that is now missing was the ability to select the “themes” button on the old remote which brought up a list of choices, or filters, from which to choose from i.e.: Golf, Football, Baseball, Motorsports, Movies, etc. You now have to use the “Search” button and type in key words hoping it will find what you are looking for…yuk. If you are watching an event that is being recorded and leave it in the middle when you go back later to watch where you left off from your only options are to “Watch from the beginning”, “Watch live”, or “Delete recording”.

The hopper 2 would allow you to watch from where you left off previously.

I started an extensive list of the things this hopper 3 won’t do that the old model would as well as what appear to be software bugs and then gave up knowing DISH will do nothing to correct the issues. Don’t buy the hopper 3.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $299.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Dish Network Pros: Installer was great.

Dish Network Cons: Lost functionality and software bugs.

Location: Black Hawk, Colorado
