I have had DISH for 14 years, the same two receivers for four TV's. I pay $130.60 per month which includes $5.00 for equipment maintenance.

Tonight ( Monday April 23rd) one of my receivers would not turn on. I spent 39 minutes on the phone with a technician who was only interested in selling me an upgrade for $150.00 because my receiver was obsolete. When I first placed the call, the recording stated I was eligible for a free upgrade, now it cost $150.00. Also, I pay $5.00 per month for equipment maintenance.

Over a 14 year period that is $840.00 and they have the nerve to charge $150.00 to replace a 14 year old receiver. What is the $840.00 I paid for equipment maintenance for?

After finally getting another person on the line and making it clear I am not paying $150.00. They are going to replace the receiver, but they can't get here until (Saturday April 28th).

Five days! This replacement is suppose to be at no charge, we will see when the bill comes.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Improve your customer service. Don't try to sell a customer something you already told them they were eligible to receive free of charge. Honor the equipment maintenance that is paid for. AND there is no reason to wait 5 days for a technician..

Dish Network Pros: I had been quietly happy for 14 years.

Dish Network Cons: Being told my only option is to buy an upgrade.

The $150 would be for the latest model receiver. You can upgrade with an older receiver at no cost. It’s worth the $150.

I ask them to ship me an older model and I would connect it myself. I was told those are no longer available. I understand the HD may be worth it to a person with good eyesight, but for a person who listens to the TV for company, it is not important.

Equipment fees are not equipment maintenance fees, you need a technician to set up the new equipment and setting up an appointment date depends on your location and if there’s other appointments scheduled, it makes sense that they couldn’t send you a replacement if it’s out of date because it’s not being produced anymore, your getting a free upgrade
